These pouches carried a 'Carlisle' metal tin containing a field dressing for your average US WW2 soldier to carry. Typically these would be hung on a M28/36 belt using the lowest level rungs so it dangles below the belt. Handy as it then moves with your body and takes up minimal room while still being easy to access. A single snap stud closure is used to secure the field dressing within. 

An essential bit of kit for anyone doing a WW2 US impression whether it be for reenactments, airsoft players or period film productions.
